Detroit International Intermodal Specialists

Mark-It Express Logistics, LLC operates a dedicated Detroit terminal at 10500 Intervale Street, Detroit, MI 48238. We provide asset-based intermodal drayage at both active international rail terminals in the Detroit metropolitan area — serving BCOs, NVOCCs, steamship lines, and freight brokers across Michigan, northern Ohio, and northern Indiana with company-owned trucks and chassis.

About Detroit’s Intermodal Rail Infrastructure

Three active intermodal terminals serve the Detroit metropolitan area. CSX and Norfolk Southern co-operate from the Livernois-Junction facility at Dix Avenue in southwest Detroit. Canadian National operates CN Moterm independently in Ferndale. Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) operates the Detroit Intermodal Terminal at 12594 Westwood Street in west Detroit. The three ramps serve distinct port origins: Dix Avenue (CSX/NS) for East Coast US ports, CN Moterm (Ferndale) for Canadian and Gulf ports, and CPKC Detroit (Westwood) for Canadian port cargo including Montreal, Halifax, Prince Rupert, and Vancouver.

The Livernois-Junction terminal is Detroit’s primary facility for East Coast port cargo. CSX and Norfolk Southern co-operate at Dix Avenue following the DIFT consolidation. CSX co-owns the Livernois-Junction Yard with Norfolk Southern.

For importers receiving cargo from East Coast origins — New York/NJ for Trans-Pacific goods transshipped east, Baltimore, Norfolk, or Savannah for consumer goods and retail — this is the Detroit discharge terminal. Mark-It Express provides pickup and delivery at this facility with company-owned equipment.

Gate reservations are required at both CSX and Norfolk Southern for pickup and return moves. Mark-It Express manages appointment scheduling on behalf of our customers as part of our dispatch workflow.
Mark-It Express’s Detroit terminal at 10500 Intervale Street is approximately 3 miles from the Dix Avenue terminal, enabling fast dispatch for time-sensitive automotive and manufacturing deliveries.

CN Moterm is Detroit’s gateway for cargo routing via Canadian National’s transcontinental network. CN’s network provides a geographic advantage: the Port of Prince Rupert, BC sits approximately 550 miles closer to Asia than the Port of Los Angeles, offering shorter ocean transit times for Trans-Pacific imports.

CN declined to participate in the DIFT consolidation, retaining Moterm as an independent operation in Ferndale — well-positioned for the northern Metro Detroit suburbs including Troy, Auburn Hills, Pontiac, and the M-59 manufacturing corridor.

For shippers routing imports from Asian origins via Prince Rupert or Vancouver on CN’s network, CN Moterm is the IPI destination in Detroit. Mark-It Express is CTPAT certified, supporting cross-border compliance requirements for Canadian-origin cargo.

The CPKC Detroit Intermodal Terminal at 12594 Westwood Street is located in west Detroit, accessing CPKC’s network via I-96. CPKC’s transcontinental network — the only Class I railroad with a single-line connection between Canada, the United States, and Mexico — connects Detroit to all four major Canadian ports: Montreal, Halifax, Prince Rupert, and Vancouver.

The terminal handles Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk containers. Montreal QC and Halifax NS origins serve European import lanes; Prince Rupert BC and Vancouver BC origins serve Trans-Pacific import lanes. Mark-It Express serves this facility for BCOs, NVOCCs, and steamship line partners routing cargo through CPKC’s Canadian gateway.

Gate hours are Monday–Friday 6:00 AM–8:00 PM and Saturday 6:00 AM–4:00 PM. The facility is closed on Sundays. Plan appointments accordingly — late Friday cutoffs and the Sunday closure require advance planning for weekend cargo flows.
