Headquartered in Lemont, we sit at the center of the largest rail gateway in North America, where all seven Class I railroads meet. We hold interchange agreements at every major international terminal in the Chicago district, with our own trucks and chassis running 24/7, 365 days a year.
Seven intermodal terminals sit inside the Chicago metro, spread from Elwood to Bensenville, and each one has its own gate rules. We work all of them, so wherever your container lands you are not calling around to find a carrier who covers that ramp.
1 Steamship line lists are representative; verify IPI routing with your ocean carrier. 2 Gate hours subject to change, contact terminal directly for current schedule. CN Joliet hours sourced from cn.ca terminal map PDF. BNSF LPC 24/7 hours sourced from freightforwarderservices.com. Full Chicago terminal listing: Intermodal Association of Chicago.
From Chicago we run drayage within roughly 300 miles, which covers Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, and Iowa. Our Channahon yard sits minutes from the BNSF and CN Joliet ramps, so the turns stay quick.
Gate reservations and ramp rules are different at every terminal and they change. We track that as part of dispatch, so it does not become your job.
Where your freight is going matters as much as where it lands. These are the distribution corridors we run to most often, and about what the drive looks like from the nearest ramp.
3 Distances are approximate estimates based on highway geography. Actual times vary by traffic, time of day, and specific address. Always verify with real-time navigation.
All six Class I railroads meet in Chicago, which is why so much of the country’s intermodal freight passes through it. That makes Chicago fast when it works and expensive when it does not. Because we are set up at every ramp in the metro with our own trucks and chassis, the routing decision does not turn into a scramble to find coverage.
Mark-It Express maintains interchange agreements at all major intermodal terminals in the Chicago gateway: BNSF Logistics Park Chicago (Elwood), Union Pacific Global IV (Joliet), CN Joliet, CN Harvey (Gateway), Norfolk Southern Landers, CSX Bedford Park, and CPKC Bensenville.
Mark-It Express is an asset-based drayage carrier. We own our trucks and our chassis, including 20 foot, 40 foot, 45 foot, and tri-axle configurations. Our fleet is run by a mix of company drivers on our own payroll and contracted drivers who work exclusively with us and bring their own truck, authority, and insurance. What we do not do is post your load to a board for whoever answers first. The capacity is dedicated, and you are dealing with people we know.
Both are co-located at the CenterPoint Intermodal Center and serve primarily West Coast port origins. The key difference is railroad and steamship line partnerships: BNSF serves Maersk, MSC, COSCO, ONE, and Yang Ming. UP serves ONE, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, Evergreen, and HMM. Your steamship line’s IPI routing determines which ramp receives your container.
Containers arriving via East Coast ports (New York/NJ, Baltimore, Norfolk, Savannah) routed to Chicago typically discharge at NS Landers or CSX Bedford Park. If routing via CN from Halifax, containers may discharge at CN Harvey or CN Joliet. Mark-It Express serves all of these facilities.
Yes. Mark-It Express operates tri-axle drayage chassis, “any-sizers”, engineered for overweight and oversized ocean containers, and is capable of moving two 20-foot TEU containers on a single chassis. Overweight permitting is handled as part of the service.
Mark-It Express provides drayage services within approximately 300 miles of Chicago, covering Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, and Iowa.
