About Us

Independent since 2009, and built to stay that way.

We’re an asset-based drayage company out of the Midwest, and the largest independent hauler in the region. We own the trucks, our drivers are on our payroll, and the person who answers the phone can actually get things done. That independence is the whole point, and it shapes every part of how we work.

Our story

A drayage company that answers to its customers, not a parent company

Mark-It Express started in 2009 with a simple idea: own the equipment, hire good drivers, and treat the phone like it matters. We’ve grown into the largest independent asset-based drayage provider in the Midwest, but the idea hasn’t changed. When you call, you reach someone who can make a decision, not a queue.

Being independent means we’re not shopping your freight to whoever’s cheapest that week, and we’re not hiding behind a broker when something goes sideways. We own the trucks and the chassis, so the capacity we promise is capacity we actually have.

The short version

  • Independent and asset-based since 2009
  • The Midwest’s largest independent drayage hauler
  • Our own trucks, chassis, and dispatch
  • Three terminals: Chicago, Detroit, Kansas City
  • Company drivers and exclusive contracted drivers
How we operate

Safety, Compliance, and Technology

Independence only means something if the fundamentals are solid. Here’s where we put the work.

Safety

Our fleet runs on company drivers and contracted drivers who work exclusively with us, not a rotating cast off a load board. Everyone is vetted and held to the same standard, because the person hauling your container is representing you on the road.

Compliance

Drayage runs on paperwork and clocks, per-diem, demurrage, chassis splits. We stay on top of the rules so a missed detail doesn’t turn into a charge you didn’t see coming.

Technology

We track every unit and share what we see, so you get a straight answer on where your freight is instead of a guess. The tech serves the work, not the other way around.

Industry advocacy

We show up for the industry we work in

Drayage doesn’t get much attention until something breaks, so we spend time where the decisions get made. We belong to the associations that set standards and speak up for intermodal, and we take part instead of just paying dues. It keeps us current on what’s changing, and it’s one more way we stay useful to the customers who count on us.
